2023

14 Wesca (Wessex Contemporary Arts) artists are exhibiting a wide range of responses to this title at 44AD artspace in Bath for one week only.  Some pieces are political, some are about the Earth, or planet and some are just very surprising!  Wesca artists are well known for the rich variety of their work, and this show is well worth a visit.

Unfortunately the URBAN SPACES exhibition (below) had to be cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.

URBAN SPACES

An Easter exhibition by 11 members of Wessex Contemporary Art (Wesca) at 2 West Walks in Dorchester

Eleven original and inventive artists respond to a theme of Urban Spaces using different and sometimes surprising materials. The variety of our sculptures, paintings and photographs makes for a stimulating exhibition.

The theme of Urban Spaces was inspired by my own pleasure at exploring the public roads and spaces in Dorchester when we first moved into the centre just over four years ago.

The town is a place where people can gather to enjoy the freedom of open squares and parks or allotments. Some of us respond to the historic nature of our setting. We have ‘rats’ in the living room and a giant water tap spewing out a stream of plastic bottles on the stairs.

We also show a formal garden and an area where young men demonstrate their skill on a skateboard against a background of graffiti.

At 2 West Walks is a private Georgian townhouse overlooking the Borough Gardens in. It has high ceilings and more space for the show than many a commercial gallery. It was formerly known as the Labour Hall. We decided to use it for this show because Dorchester is short of affordable spaces for such an exhibition.
